Jackie Shroff aka Jaikishen Kakubhai Shroff was born into a Gujrati family on February 1st, 1957. Jackie spent most of his childhood in Udgir, Dist Latur in Marathwada.
Jackie Shroff aka Jaikishen Kakubhai Shroff was born into a Gujrati family on February 1st, 1957. Jackie spent most of his childhood in Udgir, Dist Latur in Marathwada. A small time goon of South Mumbai, Jackie decided to take up modeling and in the process got noticed by Dev Anand. The evergreen actor, gave Jackie a small role in his 1973 movie Heera Panna, where he played the role of a villain. Later he made his debut in the movie Swami Dada, again a Dev Anand film. However, it was Subhash Ghai’s Herd that made him a a star overnight. After Hero, he was mostly paired with other leading actors of that time, like Anil Kapoor in the films Karma and Ram Lakhan and Parinda. These movies were all super hits and his performance in Parinda even got him the Filmfare Best Actor award in 1990. However, Jackie has mostly been successful in supporting roles rather than in a full fledged lead.
Besides his supporting roles some of his famous lead roles were in films like Angaar, where he is portrayed as a youth who is frustrated with crime and corruption and decides to then lead a violent campaign against them. Then there is Gardish in which he plays a common man who decides to take on the criminals in society. This film, by far, is considered as his best work. Jackie has given quite a few memorable performances in movies like Tridev, Khalnayak, 1942: A Love story, Rangeela, Devdas and others. After having garnered acclaim for his performance in a Bengali film Antar Mahal, he was yet again seen doing supporting roles in the Priyadarshan’s Bhagam Bhag and Feroz Naidawala’s film Fool and Final. As for his personal life, Jackie his long time sweetheart Ayesha Dutt and they have two children, Jai and Krishna.
